چکیده

Abstract The effects of hydrostatic pressure on the defective random one dimensional photonic crystals (1DPC) were investigated for two cases polymeric materials. polymers, Polystyrene (PS), and Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) act as defect layer. Surface EM waves on 1D Photonic Crystals

Photonic crystals are artificial low-loss dielectric structures with periodic modulation of refractive index, which have attracted considerable attention in the last two decades. Due to Bragg reflection, electromagnetic (optical) waves cannot propagate through such structures in certain directions, at certain frequencies. Hence, photonic crystals can control the propagation of electromagnetic w...

Theory of slow light excitation in 1D photonic crystals

Slow light (SL) states corresponding to wavelength regions near the bandgap edge of grated structures are known to show strong field enhancement. Such states may be excited efficiently by well-optimised adiabatic transitions in grating structures, e.g., by slowly turning on the modulation depth. To study adiabatic excitations, a detailed investigation in 1D is performed to obtain insight into t...

Semiclassical Coupled Wave Theory for 1d Photonic Crystals with Dissipation

We show that a modified form of the semiclassical coupled wave theory gives a reliable description of wave propagation in a 1D photonic crystal with complex refractive index. The key idea of the theory remains the same: to include both variable amplitudes and variable (geometric-optics) phases in the counterpropagating coupled waves within the photonic crystal. Here, however, the phases become ...

Absorption enhancement in 1D Ag/SiO2 metallic-dielectric photonic crystals

The one-dimensional Ag/SiO2 metallic-dielectric photonic crystals (PCs) have been prepared. The absorption enhancement effect over the corresponding metal of 1D Ag/SiO2 metallic-dielectric multi-layer structures has been measured. The enhancement effect increases with the number of layers increasing. The origin of this phenomenon and its effect on the transmittance and reflectance have been dis...
